Gearing Up for the 23rd General Convention

The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) will be holding its 23rd General Convention from November 21-25, 2011 which will be held in Batac, Ilocos Norte.  This year, the theme is “Holding High the Tapestry of Justice and Peace in a Broken World”.  This is a continuing theme from the previous Convention of “Weaving the Patchwork of Justice and Peace in a Broken World.”  The NCCP through the Convention will once again reflect upon itself and assess its work, reiterate its common vision and mission and strengthen its resolve to continue to work for LIFE IN ALL ITS FULLNESS.

Beginning last month, preparations were on the way.   The NCCP met with the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) who will be this year’s host.  An ocular visit to the Convention sites in Batac was also made. In the past week, the Convention Committees met to detail plans for the Convention and shared these to one another for consolidation and the smooth implementation of all plans.

The General Convention is held every quadrennial.  This is also a time when the NCCP will elect its new set of officers.  For this quadrennial, it will be the turn of the IFI to be chair of the NCCP.  The NCCP thanks Bishop Nathanael P. Lazaro, General Superintendent of the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista En Las Islas Filipinas for steering the NCCP ship for the last 4 years.  Kudos to Bishop Lazaro!
